Adorable Henley Calvert, from Kansas City, Missouri, celebrated her first birthday on August 14, 2019. And she was so excited at turning a year old that she decided to plant her face onto the birthday cake during the family photoshoot.

Henley’s mom Kate arranged for husband and son to gather together to celebrate Henley’s special day with some family pictures but the celebrant herself decided to preempt everything by literally diving into the cake.

Little Henley couldn’t have been happier with the strawberry-flavored cake made by a family friend with pink icing spread all over her face while she giggled the whole time.

Kate said, “Henley was a delicious mess.

“Luckily there was a fountain nearby so I stripped her down to her diaper and dunked her a few times to get her mildly cleaned off.

“We had Sunday dinner with Adam’s family next so we cleaned her as best we could and got her in a backup outfit.

“I haven’t met many foods she doesn’t like just yet, but she absolutely liked the cake.”

However, the photoshoot was special not just because it was Henley’s birthday but also because of the fact that it was a family picture. Just two weeks before Henley was born, her father, Adam, had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Ewings Sarcoma.

He was given only a 15% chance of survival but 17 rounds of chemotherapy and abdominal surgery that removed a lump from his stomach resulted in the 33-year-old dad’s cancer going into remission.

Kate said: “The photoshoot was done for Henley’s birthday, but also because we haven’t had family photos done due to Adam’s cancer treatments.

“After Adam found the lump in his stomach, we met with my OBGYN in the morning and his oncologist that afternoon.

“Because of the prognosis, same day, we induced Henley to help ensure Adam would be there for her birth.

“We are just so thankful to be where we are right now.

“Yes, it was a rough year with a newborn and my husband fighting for his life, but that made these pictures all the sweeter.”
