A 64-year-old grandmother saved the life of a young boy who fell 20ft from an open window.
Svetlana Saranova from Russia was walking home from a supermarket when she saw the child dangling from the window of an apartment block.
According to reports, it is thought that the toddler was playing with his mother but he had climbed out of the window while she was preparing a bottle of milk.
The grandmother’s heroic act was captured on a surveillance camera that was shared by local officials who want to honor her.
Six days after the incident, Svetlana was identified and authorities prepared to honor her for her actions.
“It was only afterwards that my blood pressure rose,” she expressed.
The boy’s father said he thought his wife was next to their child while she was preparing a bottle of milk for their other baby.
Reports say that the couple have a 4-year-old daughter, twins, the toddler who fell, and an 18-month-old daughter.
“I saw him from a distance away, standing in the window,” Svetlana shared. “And then… I did not know what to do.
“And what would you do? I thought, if I didn’t catch him, he would crash before my eyes.
“I needed to run and catch, or it would be much worse.
“He turned out to be rather heavy, but I did not think about the risk at that moment.”
Svetlana said that the father tried to give her 1,000 roubles or $14 but she did not accept it.
“I refused because this offended me. He put it in my bag anyway, so it is laying on my table at home now. I don’t need it.”
