Many fans and loyal viewers were caught unawares with the sudden Termination of long time ‘Today show’ host Matt Lauer. It came as a shock to millions of NBC viewers who watched the morning show devotedly.
In November 2017, claims of inappropriate sexual behavior in the work place where lodged by a detailed complaint from a colleague.
It was up to Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb to break the news about Lauer’s sudden and heart breaking news to the shows viewers.
NBC News also reiterated the same through a tweet posted in the official NBC twitter account.
Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb had to now put on the hosts shoes till a permanent replacement for Lauer was found.
Before going on air to deliver the sad news of Lauer’s departure, Savannah and Hoda prayed together. Hoda told the People that it was one prayer she would never forget.
“I said to Savannah after that prayer, ‘We’re gonna make it through this together.”
“We just sort of sat there and I was sort of on autopilot, I don’t really remember a lot of it, but I do remember just sort of holding onto Savannah and saying it just wasn’t in our hands anymore, it was in God’s hands,” she shared with the magazine.
Savanah and Hoda has been placed in an abyss as the two didn’t know what next after the shock and sadness of the kind of accusations that had befallen their long-time colleague and friend. It was definitely a abysmal and appalling thing to even think about for any person let alone close friends.
With the new year comes more clarity for the two.
With the New Year comes new permanent replacements for Matt Lauer. NBC did not waste more time in announcing as on 2nd of January, the network announced that the “Today” show co-host would be the permanent replacement to the departed Lauer. She will not only co-host the fourth hour of the “Today” show but also be a co-anchor together with Savannah.
In the early morning of the announcement day, Hoda sent out a tweet that stated “Whaaaaaatttttttt! #SavannahHodaTODAY” tagging alone a selfie of Guthrie and herself. The hashtag #SavannahHodaTODAY trending on Twitter on that day.
Fans and supporters of the show and especially the duo have not shied away in congratulating the two ladies via the hashtag #SavannahhadaTODAY. Most viewers where thrilled to find out familiar faces were taking over.
Guthrie was also among the elated fans and even announced on the show, “It’s 2018 and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of Today.
“This has to be the most popular decision NBC News have ever made and I’m so thrilled.”
The twosome will mark the first time the “Today” show will have two women as co-anchors. Hoda has described her relationship with savannah as a “sort of like sisters,” according to TODAY.
The end of 2017 for “Today” viewers was filled with shock, disappointment, and heartbreak.
The beginning of 2018 has come with much joy drove by the announcement unlike the shock, disappointment and heartbreak that ended the year 2017 for the “Today” show family.
