Stephen Mckears, a 72-year-old from Britain, started questioning his sanity after he noticed that his objects regularly moved around in his garden shed.
Surprisingly, the objects weren’t just randomly placed. The little things like screws and clips were being placed in a neatly packed state inside a tub.
It seemed as if a tidy ghost were trying to chastise the old man for his disorganization and untidiness.
In a bid to unveil the mystery, Mckears emptied the tub one day and scattered all its contents around it.
Next morning, the contents of the tub were once again back to their place. And this was it – Mckears had started doubting his own sanity.
Left with no other option, he asked his friend and neighbor Rodney Holbrook to help him uncover the truth behind the tidy phantom.
The two of them then set up a trail camera to catch the apparition. Holbrook is a wildlife photographer so they didn’t face any difficulty doing that.
When they viewed the footage the next morning, they found an unexpected guest in the shed – an adorable rodent determined to keep the space clean by moving around things twice its size.
“I’ve been calling him Brexit Mouse because he’s been stockpiling for Brexit,” Mckears said.
“The heaviest thing was the plastic attachment at the end of a hosepipe – and the chain of an electric drill. I didn’t know what it was at first. The kids were saying it was a ghost.
“One day I emptied the tub out and spread the contents on the side – and the next day they were all back in again. I thought I was going mad.”
Holbrook, who was also amazed at the determination of the little guy, joked: “I’ve been calling him Metal Mickey but some people have been saying he’s just mouse proud.
“I was quite amazed to see it – it is an amazing mouse. Steve asked if he could use my trail camera to film whatever it was that was moving the objects in his shed.
“The mouse was chucking things into the box – we thought it was a ghost or something at first. I thought I have to see this for myself.”
“It was doing it for about two hours that night – he must have had to go for a sleep after it,” Mckears said. “I’ve seen a mouse moving objects to make a nest but never metal objects.
“It’s quite amazing. It’s still busy doing it now.”
The adorable creature was also praised by the internet for his diligent behavior.
