If you felt like a beast after completing your trek up Snowdonia, get ready to get stunned by how much this tiger traveled in India.

The two-and-a-half-year-old tiger is believed to have finished the longest walk ever. The male tiger has traveled for more than 1300 km or 808 miles in five months across farms, roads, forests, and villages.

It is being believed by the conservationists that the tiger did not settle in one place for so long because it was searching either for a mate or for a territory, prey. The tiger, known as C1, was born in late 2016 in Tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary.

It was fitted with the radio collar that features GPS tracking in February. The male tiger was then let free into the wild. But the researchers had no idea that it would set on such a long journey.

The field director of Pench tiger reserve, Govekar Ravikiran, said that the purpose of doing so was to monitor sub-adult tigers’ dispersal pattern, as they are usually in the process of visiting and exploring unknown areas to mark the most suitable one as their territory.

According to a senior biologist at Wildlife Institute of India, Bilal Habib, this is the longest path undertaken by a tiger.

He explained that they knew about this long journey due to C1’s radio collar. He added that with shrinking spaces, tigers like C1 need more protection.

A tiger requires three things, food, space, and mate, to be stable at any place. Dnyanganga has space, though C1 might walk further if he fails to find a mate.

The tiger successfully made it through 7 districts in Maharashtra and Telangana (neighboring state) before resting at Dnyanganga sanctuary in Buldhana.

And throughout the journey, the only attacks C1 made was killing cattle for survival and biting a human for safety. The human did not suffer any major injury.
