As seen in the pictures that have been circulating the internet, masses of people forsook social distancing and ditched their face masks as they enjoyed the party at Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park.

The controversial party took place months after the water park had reopened following nearly three months of lockdown and strict regulations in the city.

As the revelers were standing shoulder to shoulder in the pool, dancers, performers, and a DJ entertained the crowd. While some of the partygoers were wearing life vests and relaxing on pool floats, no one appeared to wear a face mask or pay any attention to social distancing.

According to local media, the attendance at the event was capped at 50 percent.

The festivities at the water park come as thousands of Chinese tourists have taken to Wuhan to visit various popular attractions after the government’s decision to reopen certain tourist spots and offer free entries to boost the local economy.

Meanwhile, however, China’s north-western province of Xinjiang has seen a rise in new infections, prompting the authorities to impose “wartime” regulations similar to those previously imposed in Wuhan in an attempt to bring the virus under control.
