Over 300,000 riders rolled into Daytona Beach and flexed not only their muscles but also their defiance over President Biden’s national mask mandate.
The popular party town pushed ahead with its 80th annual Bike Week, and many of the bikers showed up with a defiant message: “This is America, you can’t tell us what to do!”
Biker John Saxon, 52, said: “I refuse to mask. Joe Biden ain’t gonna tell me what to do. I have a constitutional right to do whatever the hell I want.”
The recent surge in mutated Brazilian and UK coronavirus cases in Florida does not deter him. “I don’t believe in all that virus bulls***. I’ve had a friend who’s had it three or four times,” he said.
“And if anyone should be worried about the virus, it’s me – I don’t have a spleen.”
Nobody practiced social distancing or wore a mask despite fears the occasion could become a coronavirus superspreader event, the Daily Mail reported.
24-year-old David Seibert from Pittsburgh also rode to Daytona Beach and defiantly said: “If I was going to get it, I would have had it by now. I don’t believe in masks, I’m yet to even wear one. If I walk into a gas station and they ask me to put one on, I just walk straight out of there.”
Seibert’s large black banner flying from his Harley reads: “F*** Biden and F*** You For Voting for him.”
He continued: “The flag has got me an insane amount of attention but people love it, they love the message, bikers love their freedom.”
President Biden has vowed to work with mayors and governors to introduce a national mask mandate to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.
It is estimated that around 300,000 to 400,000 will attend the event this year, which is still a huge boost for the coronavirus-ravaged area.
