When dogs and humans first forged their eternal bond, these canines were mostly utilitarian animals, there to help in the hunt and protect our ancestors’ primitive homesteads against wild animals or even against fellow humans.

As time went on, the effects of domestication and selective breeding have made dogs mostly funny family members on four legs who are just as spoiled and pampered as their human counterparts.point 265 |

Of course, there are dogs who still perform duties most closely resembling what their ancestor dogs were doing, mainly hunting dogs (in the more remote parts of the world) and protecting lives (such as with police dogs).point 184 | 1

But even this utilitarian aspect has evolved as support dogs have surged in popularity with the increase of mental and physical disorders in society.

Then again, there are just some dogs who have fallen far down the chain when it comes to these things and only haphazardly performs their duties, such as this adorable bulldog who has to be the laziest guard dog ever.

The video starts with Buddy the American Bulldog not just leaning on the couch, he’s actually leaning on it in the laziest way possible. As the couch is backed up against the window, Buddy soon notices something outside, perhaps a cat in the yard or something else, but he dutifully barks at whatever it is he sees but he never changes position!

He can be seen with his head placed comfortably at the top of the backrest of the couch, barking away as if it’s something he has to do but honestly, he could be doing something else.

Buddy’s owner is as equally amused as us and calls Buddy the laziest guard dog, and he’s right!

In any case, being lazy is likely part of Buddy’s personality. But if your dog is normally active then suddenly becomes lazy or disinterested, this may be a warning sign that something is wrong and you should immediately take your pet to see a veterinarian.
