Texas County Confirms 85 Babies Have Tested Positive For Covid-19, At Least One Has Passed Away


85 babies under the age of one have tested positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the outbreak, Nueces County in Texas has confirmed.

A baby boy under 6 months old and a newborn whose mother contracted the infection passed away from the virus, KIITV reported.

It is not clear how the infants have become infected with the coronavirus.

In a press conference, Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez said: “These babies have not even had their first birthday yet. Please help us to stop the spread of this disease.”

Rodriguez also warned people that they must wear masks in public, practice social distancing rules, and stay at home except for essential trips to halt the spread of Covid-19.

She also urged parents not to take their children to places where there is a high chance of contracting the infection.

“These children are not two yet, they are under one,” Rodriguez said. “They cannot wear a mask and so they are unprotected.

“Some people may say 85 doesn’t sound like a lot compared to 8,000. It’s all how you look at it you know. Are these your children?”

A baby passed away from coronavirus in the Nueces County, Medical Examiner Adel Shaker said.

“It’s not anything that anyone can be prepared to face, even with the best plan,” Shaker expressed.

According to KIITV, another infant under the age of one died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The child also tested positive for coronavirus.

As of Friday, the County has more than 8,100 cases of coronavirus.

Corpus Christi city manager Peter Zazoni told CNN: “Nueces County has the fastest growth in new cases on the seven-day average than any other metropolitan county in the state.

“You can see the trend line is relatively flat until July, and this is where we have had that huge spike in cases, and this is why it’s turned into a major problem for Nueces County.”
