As the tenants in question revealed, they have never given their landlord any reason to doubt them or their ability to take care of his property during their stay. Nevertheless, he managed to shock them with a series of ‘simple house rules’ he expected them to follow even though he isn’t staying in the same building as them.

Among other rules, the landlord told the tenants to switch off lights when not in use and not to leave naked flames unattended. He also told them to clean the kitchen and avoid touching heat controls unless it gets really cold inside.

Sharing a photo of the “patronizing” rules on social media, the tenants wrote: “We found our new landlord’s ‘Simple House Rules’ before he’s given them out. We’re all in mid-20s or older.”

While some people pointed out they didn’t notice anything wrong with the rules, the tenants explained that they found them “incredibly patronizing” because they’ve never displayed any inappropriate behavior at the man’s property.

“In all honesty we just find it incredibly patronizing. We’re adults and we haven’t displayed any ridiculous behavior,” the tenants wrote.

“It’s the capacity in which we’re being treated like children. It’s patronizing beyond belief. We don’t disagree with them, nor have we displayed anything other than these ‘rules’ in our time here.”

“Mate from someone who’s lived in countless rented properties over the years, get out asap and in the meantime brace yourself for arguments. This is someone who thinks they can rent out a property but still treat it like it’s their home,” someone warned.
