The police have tracked down and questioned two teenagers who filmed themselves coughing around produce and fellow shoppers on purpose.
As the authorities have warned, parents should keep an eye on their children and monitor their social media activities, especially during lockdown when youths have more time to engage in various social media challenges on their hands.
The incident occurred in Purcellville, Virginia, where two unnamed teens took to a Harris Teeter to follow through with their coronavirus challenge and cough around people and produce.
“The two juveniles questioned admitted to their involvement, and it was determined that there was no criminal intent,” Purcellville Police Department explained in a statement.
“The investigation concluded the teenagers were getting close to other patrons and coughing into their own sleeves, while filming it on their phones.
“After viewing the video footage, officers determined no actual customers or produce were spit or coughed on directly, but we appreciate the store’s swift action in reporting the incident to police and removing any items in question to ensure the health of store patrons and employees.”
As the police went on to say, they urge parents of kids who are currently not able to go to school to monitor their activities and “to discourage the promotion of any such fear-inducing behavior.”
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, plenty of other pranksters were seen pretending to have a cough to scare nearby people and gain attention on social media where they share their videos under hashtags such as #coughingchallenge and #coronaviruschallenge.
