Teenager Wakes Up Every Day Without Memory Of The Day Before After Traumatic Brain Injury

In 2017, a high school student from North Carolina was at cross-country practice with her teammates when she was accidentally hit in the temple.

Caitlin Little, who was 14 at that time, started losing her memories. Her mom, Jennifer Little, had to pick her up that day.

The mother noticed that her daughter suddenly forgot how to open the door to their family vehicle.

Ever since then, Caitlin has been unable to remember things – the names of food, days of the week, and what class she was attending at Southeast Guilford High School.

Despite many visits with multiple hospitals across the country, the family hasn’t found the right treatment to her condition.

Caitlin has a form of amnesia that resets her brain while she sleeps so she doesn’t remember anything that happened the day before.

She wakes up every day thinking it is the day after her brain injury occurred, October 13, 2017.

Her father Chris Little said while gently waking her up: “Hey, sweetheart, you got hit on the head during cross-country practice and you’ve been out of things for a while.”

Caitlin gets through the day by writing notes everywhere in the house.

Her sister, Sarah Little, told Fox8: “It’s like living in Alice in Wonderland. Because in there they have ‘eat me,’ ‘drink me,’ ‘use this’ and that’s all of her sticky notes everywhere — ‘use this,’ ‘you’ll really like this.’ It’s sort of what you do.”

Caitlin told Fox8: “I have Post-it notes that say, ‘Do this or this is new,’ things to help me out. Don’t wear your big sister’s shirts, it gets on her nerves.”

The teen is now in Texas with her parents to meet with a team of doctors for another type of therapy. Her mom wrote on their GoFundMe page: “We’ve had two days of all day treatments and doctors are very helpful!”

Caitlin’s current treatment costs $1,000 a day and needs to be continued through next week. Jennifer wrote: “Folks have asked how to help. Prayers are BEST!

“If you feel like doing more, then this is best place right now. Neither one of us are working right now and things are adding up fast…We will find a way to do this and continue to trust God to lead us.”
