A teenager was arrested after charging inside a restaurant and threatening the workers with a knife while demanding free chips.
The incident occurred in Wales, UK, where 19-year-old Matthew Hawkins entered a Yummies Pizza and Kebab store before flaunting his knife and demanding to get $2 worth of chips for free.
According to the reports, the teen pulled out a 9-inch knife and threatened to cut the staff with it should they refuse to serve him free food.
“I want free chips. Hurry up or I’m going to cut you,” the 19-year-old allegedly said.
Following a 15-minute confrontation, Hawkins told the staff he was coming back for his chips after “going to fu**ing rob next door.”
After leaving the restaurant, the teen visited the Best One store next door where he allegedly also threatened employees with his knife.
According to the reports, one of the restaurant’s employees followed Hawkins, who was drunk at the time of the incident, and shut him inside the store while waiting for the police to arrive.
As the authorities showed up, Hawkins was allegedly banging on the front door and shouting: “Give me my f***ing chips.”
Following his arrest, the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of a deadly weapon and two robbery counts and was sentenced to 3 years in an institution for young offenders.
“The courts have a duty to protect workers in small businesses who were vulnerable to such attacks,” Judge Paul Thomas QC said.
As he told the teenager, his actions must have “frightened the living daylights” out of the workers who were trapped in the same place as him for a prolonged time.
