A 17-year-old has had more than 80 teeth removed from his jaw after suffering from the condition called complex odontoma for over five years.
Nitish Kumar from India had grown 82 teeth in the two tumors in his jaw and he has finally had them removed in a three-hour surgery.
Because he could not get proper treatment for his condition, his jaw became severely swollen and his face started to become distorted.
Nitish then consulted doctors at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences where x-rays revealed the shocking collection of teeth in his jaw.
Doctors successfully removed the tumor and 82 teeth in a three-hour surgery.
Dr. Manish Mandal, the medical superintendent of the institute, said the teen’s condition had worsened because of a lack of proper treatment.
Fortunately, Dr. Priyankar Singh from the maxillofacial unit and his colleague Dr. Javed Iqbal managed to complete the complex surgery.
Thanks to the procedure, Nitish can now properly move his mouth.
Earlier this year, a woman in the US had all of her teeth pulled out.
Brittany Negler from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, revealed how she turned to drugs after her brother passed away.
She said she blamed herself for her brother’s death that she fell into a crippling spiral, leaving her teeth rotting.
When she visited a dentist to have her teeth fixed, the dentist removed them all and replaced them with oversized dentures, making it hard for her to eat.
“I went and got my records before I came here and it looks like they just made it up right before I came in,” Brittany said. “Because on there it says ‘fixable by a root canal’, but they never said anything about a root canal. They said my teeth weren’t fixable; that they had to be pulled.”
Brittany said she was always ridiculed on social media so she decided to contact Dr. Kenny Wilstead who managed to fit her with removable dentures.
