But days later Kashala complained of severe headaches. “I drove over and I told her to get up. I said, ‘Get up, Kashala.’ She kept saying, ‘Mama, my head hurts,’ so she laid down,” Mamie told.

When Kashala lost consciousness the mother called 911 and she was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where she slipped into a coma. The doctors discovered a tumor in the back of her head. “We found out she has a large tumor in the back of her head, and she had fluid buildup in her brain,” the grieving mother said.

When Kashala was on life support, her mother discovered the video of the brutal fight.

“It’s not fair. She did not deserve that. She kept saying ‘Stop.’ She didn’t even want to fight, but they kept going. I’ve never met a person who has come into contact with Kashala who has not fallen in love with her. She was a sweet baby, real sweet. She always said she loved me, gave me hugs, kisses. She always found a way to make me laugh, when I was sad or mad, no matter what happened,” she said.

On April 24, Kashala passed away and according to the Houston Chronicle, an autopsy performed by Harris County Institute of Forensic Science ruled that the girl’s death was caused by natural causes due to “complications of intracranial neoplasm (pilocytic astrocytoma).”

“So if she had a tumor in her head that we (didn’t know) about, and somebody repeatedly stomps and kicks and punches you in your head, you’re not even fighting back, is it going to be better, is it going to be worse?” she asked. The mother strongly believes that if it wasn’t for the fight, she “still would have had more time with my baby.”
