A romantic teen asked his cheerleader girlfriend to homecoming in an incredibly sweet proposal.
David Matthew Cowan of Seminole High School in Florida surprised his loving girlfriend, Saris Marie Garcia, during a football game.
The senior dashed onto the field with balloons, bouquet, and a sign that asked his girlfriend, “Will you be my sunshine to homecoming?”
In a video shared on Instagram, 18-year-old Garcia is seen dropping her pompoms when she sees 19-year-old Cowan. She grabs the sign and giddily smiles while reading it.
Cowan drops to one knee and asks her to the dance. The gentleman kisses her hand when she agrees.
The people in the stands and the cheerleading squad erupt in applause as the romantic teen triumphantly raises his arms in the air.
The Instagram post quickly went viral and gained more than 300,000 views.
Garcia’s mom, Wanda Cruz, said to Fox News: “That’s how they are. They are always so genuine and sweet and happy together.”
The couple, who both have Down syndrome, have known each other since they were only 3-years-old.
“They’ve always been together. It’s just so cute how their relationship progressed and blossomed,” Cruz said to Fox News.
The lovebirds had a great time at the homecoming dance.
“The sweetest thing was when the principal brought them to the stage and introduced them to the school as a special couple, and the crowd went wild,” Cruz added. “They were just jumping and screaming and cheering for them. It was so cute.”
Garcia is a runway model who has been featured in events in Puerto Rico and Orlando, and in NYFW. She hopes to one day model in London and Paris.
“It feels amazing to share this story and also to see the impact on other families [with children with Down syndrome], how they feel inspired, and it shows them they can have a fulfilling life,” Cruz said. “It’s great to promote inclusion and acceptance.”
