A teen Capitol rioter accused of assaulting an officer has pleaded with the authorities to let him return to his family.
18-year-old Bruno Joseph Cua from Milton, Georgia, was arrested last month after it came to light that he participated in the January 6 insurrection at Capitol Hill.
Shortly after his arrest on February 5, the teenage boy was denied bond, prompting him to stay behind bars until now, Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
In a letter to Judge Randolph D. Moss, the teenager begged for lenience as he insisted he was truly sorry about his actions and expressed how he just wants to be reunited with his mother and father.
“I just want to go home to my Mom and Dad, I am truly sorry,” Bruno reportedly wrote in his letter to the U.S. District Court Judge as he admitted jail had its “full effect” on him.
“All I ask is that you please allow me to be reunited with my loving family so we can figure out the next steps before I stand trial.”
The 18-year-old’s arrest followed a month after he joined the MAGA mob in breaking into the Capitol while a joint session of congress was underway.
According to the reports, Cua, who is the youngest person to be arrested over the Capitol riot, managed to get all the way to the Senate chambers on January 6. While doing so, he also assaulted a federal police officer, prosecutors say.
Besides the alleged assault, Cua has also been charged with obstructing an official proceeding before Congress.
Following the January 6 riot, the 18-year-old took to social media to defend his actions saying they “attacked the swamp rats.”
“We didn’t attack American people. We attacked the swamp rats,” he wrote at the time as he called for “the swamp rat tyrants in the capitol” to be locked up and said he wanted to “burn the place to the ground.”
Speaking of his past comments in the letter to the judge, Cua said: “Given how innaproprite [sic] my social media activity was, I truly understand your worries, and I appreciate you taking time to really consider the options.”
