An 18-year-old faces a first-degree murder charge after he shot a 7-year-old girl in Chicago’s West Side.
Marion Lewis was charged after Jaslyn Adams died on April 18.
According to reports, Jaslyn was sitting in her father’s car at a McDonald’s drive-thru when the shooting happened.
Jaslyn’s father, Jontae Adams, was severely injured in the incident.
The teen faces three counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault of a cop, said police Supt. David Brown during a news conference.
19 counts have been filed against the 18-year-old.
Brown said that other suspects in the killing of the young girl remain at large.
Lewis was caught while trying to steal a vehicle on Eisenhower Expressway after his car crashed while trying to escape from police, Brown said.
“You can run, but you can’t hide. We are going to bring you to justice for this crime. The Adams family deserves nothing less, no question at all,” he added.
Brown also told reporters: “We are saying at this point in the investigation that he was involved in the murder of Jaslyn Adams. That’s our specific statement.”

A video shows police pulling the girl’s body from the car and placing her in a police car to take her to a hospital.
A witness can be heard screaming: “Oh s***! They killed a baby!”
Jaslyn was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her father was shot in the torso.
Officers said they believe that the incident was gang-related.
Adams’ mother, Lawanda McMullen, confirmed that her son was involved with gangs.
“I’m not going to sit here and lie and say he wasn’t involved in gangs,” she told the Chicago Times. “It was gang related and just stupidity.”
