A Florida teen faces a first-degree murder charge after he shot a man in a Starbucks drive-thru in Lake Worth Beach.
19-year-old Justin Ray Boersma allegedly cut in front of the victim’s Chevrolet truck with his Nissan Versa, and this made the other driver furious.
Samuel Joseph Rossetti, 31, pounded on the teen’s window before destroying a door handle of the door.
But while the victim was walking back to his car, Boersma fired three shots and drove away.
The teen then told detectives that his girlfriend and baby, and another friend, were in his vehicle. His girlfriend was screaming ‘we have a baby in the car!” during the attack.
Boersma also said that he was worried about the safety of his family and he believed that the 31-year-old man would be getting his own weapon.
Witnesses said that Boersma hit another car while he was driving away. He then told detectives that he left the scene so he could call a lawyer.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the teen did not see Rossetti with any weapon.
Deputies and another witness with medical training administered CPR on the victim while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
He was then rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was declared dead. He leaves behind a family, including his foster son.
Boersma has been charged with firing a weapon in public. He is currently being held without bond.
Palm Beach County criminal defense attorney Patrick McKamey told CBS 12: “I think this is a case that was actually built for Stand Your Ground law. It looks like a great case.
“The defense can reasonably argue, it’s unreasonable to think that if he’s not in fear for his life or the life of those in the vehicle, why would somebody with an infant in the car go out and start shooting.”
