An Alabama substitute teacher who performed sex acts with her students gets two years in prison.
32-year-old Whitley Mizzell from Ragland pleaded guilty to having sex with two of her students in the St. Clair County School system.
She was sentenced to a 10-year split sentence, starting with two years in jail followed by three years of supervised probation.
Mizzell, who will be required to register as a sex offender, could be sent back to jail to serve eight more years if she violates the conditions of her release, the Anniston Star reported.
Schools Superintendent Mike Howard said at the time of Mizzell’s arrest that the former substitute teacher was hired through a third-party agency.
“We have a contract with them,” Howard said. “We contact the company through a representative.”
The 32-year-old was arrested in July 2019 on accusations of multiple counts of sexual intercourse with two students under the age of 19, according to court records. She had faced up to 20 years in jail for the felony counts.
She was released on $15,000 bonds only one hour after she was booked.
It is not clear where or when the sex acts with the male students happened. The identities of the students have not been released.
After entering her guilty pleas, Mizzell was taken into custody by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.
