As Jessika Bailing explained, infected people were seen spitting on health workers and buttons in elevators in an attempt to spread the virus to other people.

Due to the emergency situation and a growing number of confirmed infections in the city, Bailing is now “afraid to go outside” of her apartment.

“I’ve heard shocking stories about infected people going out of their way to contaminate others by taking off their masks and spitting in doctors’ faces,” she said in an interview with Metro.

“I saw one video of a man spitting on all of the buttons in an apartment elevator.”

As the 23-year-old teacher, who is originally from South Africa, added, she only went outside on a “terrifying supplies run” after she started running out of supplies.

“I covered myself from head-to-toe with gloves on my hands, glasses to cover my eyes and of course, my mask,” she said.

Meanwhile, plenty of travelers are being seen using everything from large plastic bags to plastic bottles to entirely cover their heads amid fears that they could contract the deadly coronavirus.

While the controversial methods may protect them against the virus, experts have quickly warned against such practice due to high risks of suffocation.

“Wearing containers on your head to prevent a coronavirus infection [is not advised],” the CDC warned.

In one photo shared by a traveler, a woman is seen walking around the airport with her head wrapped in a tiny plastic bag.
