A teacher has been slammed and accused of promoting animal abuse after threatening his students with hurting a puppy in case they don’t win a vocabulary competition.

The teacher behind the sick joke was 42-year-old Ryan Price who’d been teaching teens at California’s Buckingham Charter Magnet High School.

In a failed attempt to try and motivate his students, Price brought a puppy, which is believed to be his dog, into the classroom to show it to the students.

In his speech, the teacher addressed his students and told them they were close to winning the vocabulary competition they were participating in.

Price went on to say that the puppy he brought with him was their new mascot to which the students responded by cheering.

Then, the teacher took a U-turn and threatened the students with killing the dog if they lose in the vocabulary competition.

“Hey, listen up you guys, let’s talk about the Vocab Bowl. I know we are winning right now, but I want to expand our lead. Ash County Middle School is closing the gap, so to motive you I’ve got us a mascot,” Price said.

“This is Buck – Buck the vocab mascot to encourage you to do your bucking vocab. If you don’t do your vocab and we lose the Vocab Bowl… I kill the dog,” he added before the video being taken by one of the students went off.

While some people defended the teacher by saying he was just fooling around and would probably never hurt the dog, others suggested he went too far and should get fired.
