A teacher in Mexico has been suspended after making students put cardboard boxes on their heads during an exam to prevent them from cheating.
Outraged parents didn’t like the male teacher’s approach to discipline the high school students that they have even demanded that he is dismissed from the school.
According to reports, the Ethics and Values teacher made the entire class wear boxes on their heads to make sure that they won’t copy others’ answers during the exam.
The parents said through a press release: “This is how Luis Juarez Texis treats and humiliates his class.” They also asked authorities to ‘protect the rights of the students’ and asked the school to dismiss the teacher as such ‘violence’ shouldn’t be tolerated.
The school explained that it was an exercise to help the ‘students’ psychomotor development.’ They also said that the children had consented to the ‘dynamic exercise’ and it ‘respects human and individual rights.’
Many people, including other teachers and past students, commended the teacher’s personality and professionalism.
One internet user said that Mr. Texis was a ‘magnificent and innovative teacher.’
This is not the first time a teaching institution has been reported for their bizarre method to prevent cheating in exams.
A university in Thailand also used these strange but effective hats for their students. The idea, created by stapling A4 ear flaps to another piece of paper, was thought up by the students.
Nattadon Rungruangkitkrai, one of the teachers, said: “It was an agreement between us. No student was forced to wear a hat. Instead, all were happy to do so and thought it was fun. They felt more relaxed during the test.
“It was not meant to indicate that Kasetsart students often cheat on exams. I apologise if the photo makes other people look at my students in a negative way.”
