Lewis was teaching at the Frey Elementary School when she forced a 5-year-old boy with special needs to sit in his own feces for several hours ‘to teach him a lesson.’

The 56-year-old said she wanted ‘to prove a point’ by forcing the child to keep wearing his soiled clothing. After a complaint was filed against her, she was arrested and the arrest warrant stated that the special education teacher was believed to have caused the student mental and physical discomfort.

“According to witness statements the accused acted with intent when she said that she was ‘going to prove a point’ by having said child remain in his soiled clothing to teach him a lesson about restroom habits. Said child did suffer redness and irritation to his buttocks as well as mental pain as a result of the teacher’s actions,” the warrant added.

But Lewis already got out of jail that same day after paying a bond of $5,000.

A spokesperson for the Cobb County School District, Nan Kiel, said in a statement “that a staff member may not have provided the high level of care for a student that Cobb Schools requires.”

The boy’s parents were also informed about Lewis’ dismissal from their notification.

“This staff member is out on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the notification from the district added.

Kiel also said that “Cobb is committed to ensuring that our students have a safe and supportive environment so they can achieve success.”

The special education teacher has been charged with a single felony count of cruelty to children. Before the incident, Lewis was admired by the school and parents.

“She was the teacher for one of our children and I really thought she was great,” David Pintozzi expressed, adding: “She did great. I really thought she was fine, at the time. I’m so very sorry to hear that. That’s very unfortunate.”
