As healthcare workers are risking their lives fighting the pandemic on the frontlines, one teacher has created hundreds of face visors to assist them in their battle.
Wendy Hayes from the UK is a Design and Technology head who came upon the idea to assist nurses and doctors in their fight against the deadly coronavirus by providing them with much-needed protective equipment.
“After schools went into lockdown, the D&T teacher groups that I’m a member of on Facebook started to look for ways that we could help the NHS in its time of need,” the Good Samaritan said in an interview with LADbible.
“We are all very aware how scary it must be for those on the front line trying to do their jobs of helping and saving lives, without all of the correct kit to protect them.”
After realizing that the lab at their school, the Park House School, was empty due to lockdown, the teachers decided to use it to build some three hundred face visors that offer additional protection to healthcare workers.
As their selfless efforts went viral, the teachers were joined by another school that pitched in and made nearly two hundred visors as well.
When the masks are ready for distribution, Hayes delivers them to locals charities and hospitals most in need of additional PPE.
In addition to all of her work, the teacher has also started a JustGiving fundraiser to get enough money to replenish materials and make even more protective visors.
“I’m proud, but feel I’m not the one on the front line having to care for what are some incredibly poorly people, so only doing my bit, and the donations have really inspired me,” Hayes told LADbible.
