With schools closed due to lockdown, 47-year-old assistant headteacher Zane Powles has been delivering 75 lunches per day to kids from struggling families for free.

As the kind man from the UK revealed, each trip takes him about two hours whereas he leaves the meals at students’ doorsteps before ringing the bell and moving away to a safe distance.

“Whenever they see me, parents and kids will come to the door. Most of them have been fantastic in following the advice to stay indoors and to stay two meters apart so they don’t spread the virus,” Mr. Powles said.

“Everyone is doing their bit and delivering lunches to the most vulnerable is my contribution.”

As the assistant headteacher went on to say, he enjoys long-distance interactions with people he meets during his daily journeys.

According to Zane, he also delivers extra homework upon request. While children may not be very happy about this, their parents get to keep them busy so that they can focus on working from home.

“It’s about making sure vulnerable kids get at least one decent meal. People are risking their lives on the front line or delivering medicines as a volunteer, and I’m doing this because it’s the right thing to do to help where I can,” the 47-year-old added.

“It’s important that I’m doing my bit in the national effort – as we go through this crisis as a country together.

“Hand-delivering the lunches is a better way than parents coming into the school as it’s all about reducing the risk of the virus spreading.”
