A teacher at Western Primary School melted everyone’s hearts when he shared how he delivers lunches to his vulnerable students daily amid coronavirus lockdown.
Zane Powles walks five miles every day to give out lunches to his pupils.
Viewers of Good Morning Britain hosted by Dr. Hilary and Lorraine commended the assistant head teacher’s efforts during COVID-19 pandemic.
Zane said he delivers half of the lunches by foot and others by car, dropping the meals in front of his vulnerable students’ houses.
His pupils and their parents wait for him at their windows to smile and wave. Zane also received heartwarming letters from his pupils.
Every morning, Zane prepares 30 to 40 pounds of lunches in carrier bags and a large backpack.
“We do care about every single child in our school,” Zane said. “We do out very best, this is just the sort of things we do in our school.”
In 2019, he was named Primary Teacher of the Year.
The humble teacher said the best he could do was to ‘keep giving everything’ to the pupils and ‘never fail’ children.
Host Lorraine Kelly and the viewers of Good Morning Britain commented Zane’s impressive dedication to his pupils.
“How incredible is Zane Powles, Walks 5 miles to deliver lunches to his pupils every day. Wow,” one internet user commented.
“Well done Zane for looking after your vulnerable pupils, I bet your visit is the highlight of their day. How sad though that so many parents can’t or won’t feed their kids,” another wrote.
“I hope it is people like Zane doing things like this that get remembered in the New Years Honours list along with all our fantastic health service and key workers. Well done Sir!…” a third added.
