Surgeon General of the United States, Jerome Adams, has pleaded all US citizens to take coronavirus pandemic seriously, urging everyone to act as if they would have acted on getting infected with COVID-19.
Speaking to Today’s Savannah Guthrie, Adams revealed his concerns about the people who are still not taking the pandemic seriously and are not observing ‘social distancing’ rules.
Despite that the CDC has strictly emphasized people to ‘stay at home,’ people are not bringing any changes to their usual routine and meetup plans.
Adams said: “Right now, there are not enough people out there taking this seriously. You see it in California, people on the beaches. We need to take this seriously.”
“We see here in D.C. — the district set up a cam for people to watch the cherry blossoms — [but] you look on the cam, you see more people walking around than you see cherry blossoms and this is how the spread is occurring. We really need to stay home.”
The American anesthesiologist has warned that the COVID-19 can ‘get bad’ in the coming week and appealed all Americans to play their role ‘together as a nation.’
“Everyone needs to act as if they have the virus right now,” said the 45-year-old. “Test or no test, we need you to understand you could be spreading it to someone else or you could be getting it from someone else.”
Even though the virus is spreading at an alarmingly increased rate, some US citizens aren’t bothering about keeping themselves isolated from others.
The recommendations from the government and health sectors are recklessly overlooked, as demonstrated by the pictures of holidaymakers who can be seen enjoying the Clearwater Beach in West Florida.
Officials from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale have announced that they will close their beaches completely to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
As of now, there are more than 46k confirmed coronavirus cases in the US, with over 580 confirmed deaths.
