Students Gave Royal Treatment To A Janitor On His Last Day Before Retirement

An 83-year-old janitor was treated like a king by students on his last day before retirement.

John Lockett was a hardworking school custodian at the Carroll County School System in Georgia and worked for the school for 12 years.

He was a caring man and was very popular among students.

When his health deteriorated, Carla Meigs, the principal of the school suggested him to retire from the school.

But, Lockett refused to say he wanted just one final semester with his students.

On his last day before his retirement, he was honored by the students and teachers as they planned a grand farewell.

Lockett’s wife, Annie Julia Lockett, who knew about the surprise farewell, told WXIA-TV: “I knew he was gonna cry.”

On his farewell day, he was treated like a King as students and teachers presented him with cake, cards, and a royal outfit.

He wore a red cape and a royal crown given to him by the students and teachers.

Lockett told CNN: “It really was a surprise to me. Tears came rolling down my face. I didn’t know if I’d be able to walk down the hall.”

“Oh shucks, I love the kids so much,” Lockett said.

“There’s so much I didn’t do in my younger days. I had to find a way to make my life mean something.”

“I made it my business to be a good steward. I want to make the kids the heroes.”

“The school is definitely a family to me. I love every one of those teachers”, Lockett said.
