High School Students Hospitalized After They Mistakenly Consumed Cake With Illegal Substances

A group of secondary school students had to be hospitalized after they mistakenly ate a cannabis cake.

The teenagers had the usual ‘end of term’ Christmas cakes but had to be shifted to the hospital because the cakes were, technically speaking, not very usual.

All the students, from Denefield School, Reading, were aged 14. They started feeling ill just after they consumed the cakes laced with cannabis.

Luckily enough, none of the students suffered any permanent damage. All of them were discharged from the hospital after the effects of the hallucinogen subsided.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of West Berkshire Council, Martin Dunscombe.

He said that the students were provided the necessary medical care at the campus by paramedics before being shifted to the hospital.

Martin said: “A small number of students were admitted to hospital as a precaution. It is now clear that these cakes contained cannabis or a cannabis-related product.

“The school is deeply concerned by this isolated and unprecedented incident.”

According to the local reports, the student who laced the cake with cannabis has been rusticated from the institution and the police are running a criminal investigation for the case.

According to Martin, more students might also be expelled from the school after the findings of the investigation come up.

He said: “The head teacher gave assemblies on Monday morning to every student in the school, clarifying how to keep safe, and the clear and obvious consequences of bringing any form of drugs into school.

“The school has an extremely robust drugs policy and takes drugs education very seriously. The school’s trustees, the head teacher and the whole school staff are absolutely committed to the safety and welfare of students.”

This is not the first time people had to get medical care because of eating drug-laced cakes.

Recently, in Germany, the participants of a funeral had to be shifted to the hospital after consuming a cake containing marijuana.

The Guardian reported that the mourners went to a café to get some cakes and coffee after the funeral, as is customary in Germany. However, the cake they ordered got mixed with a marijuana cake ordered by someone else.

A total of 13 people had to be shifted to the hospital after they consumed the cake.
