While walking home by herself after a night out with her friends, a student discloses how she was fearful of dying when she was raped on the street by someone she did not know.
Laura Prada, 21, visited a friend for her 21st birthday and believed it was alright to walk back home without companion since it would have taken 15 minutes from the friend’s place and her place.
Callum Jamieson, 24, had stalked her secretly for at least a mile; he shoved her to the ground before she could reach her place and forced himself on her in a sexual manner.
In that moment, Laura’s heart was racing and screamed out for help. A bystander had heard her, coming to the rescue as her attacker fled the scene.
Fortunately, a DNA match had been made and was convicted to his rape sentence for 8 years, an additional five years was on his extended license. Prada was unaware, an upsetting shock to discover that this was not his first instance.
At the time that Laura was walking home, it was about 3 am but she decided to walk home on her own because “there were a lot of people still out.” As she progressed closer to her home, the centre had become hushed.
Living in a student accommodation gave the assumption that the criminal was a fellow peer, accidentally bumping into her. When her body was slammed towards the floor, she knew that she was being attacked.
“As I screamed he shoved his fist into my mouth, then spun me around and I fell to the ground… I was terrified…. I was completely at his mercy.” Prada tells news outlets.
The scene escalated when he took her money and scattered her belongings when she proceeded to give her handbag to him out of fear, transitioning to the horrible crime that he committed.
“I felt utter revulsion. I kept thinking of my boyfriend.” In the midst of her cry for help, she heard footsteps approaching and another voice asking, “What are you doing?” This proceeded with her sexual predator leaving in order to not get caught.
Both the kind stranger and Prada were together for a bit until she got home safe. In the process, she states, “I was shaking with shock… He [Dad] was devastated and while the police officer was still there he turned up, and hugged me. He stayed with me that night.”
After releasing a video statement and obtaining a swab of his DNA, the man was rightfully imprisoned for his wrongdoings.
Callum Jamieson was previously convicted in May 2015 for the same misconducted. Once he was finished, he continued to molest 2 female students and was in jail once again for 26 months. It fell apart when he pleaded guilty to rape.
In court, they stated that his attack caused significant phycological harm, and Prada is “glad he’s now behind bars so he can’t do it to anyone else.. he should be given longer.”
