18-Year-Old Student Passed Away After ‘Lengthy Hospitalization’


An 18-year-old student has tragically passed away after a “lengthy hospitalization” caused by Covid-19.

Michael Lang from La Grange, Chicago, was a University of Dayton freshman who succumbed to coronavirus complications after returning home from campus to study remotely.

According to the reports, the student left the campus with the intention of studying from home on September 13. On October 22, following a lengthy hospitalization, the 18-year-old passed away from Covid-19 complications.

“The loss of Michael calls our campus community to honor his memory and support those who are affected by his passing. Please respect the family’s request for privacy at this time,” the officials at the University of Dayton expressed.

The news of Michael’s passing follows a coronavirus outbreak at the Ohio university that recorded a total of over 1,400 Covid cases in the last two months and a half.

While the cases at the university peaked back at the end of August when there was a record of 167 new cases in a single day, the outbreak appears to have been contained, whereas the 7-day average number of daily cases was reportedly 5 during last week.

Speaking of the 18-year-old freshman, statistics professor Ying-Ju Chen said Michael was someone “you would remember” if you met him once.

“Everyone who got infected has recovered, so I didn’t expect anyone to die. I’m horribly stunned,” Evan Anderson, a senior, added in an interview with Dayton Daily News.
