A stroke occurs when part of the brain loses its blood supply and stops working.

This causes the part of the body that the injured brain controls to stop working.

Usually, a healthy young man or woman never expects to have a stroke. However, a stroke is not an uncommon thing to happen to young people. The causes of a stroke are plenty and the age range of people who suffer a stroke is wide. Of course, the risk of strokes increases as age increases but young people are not free from strokes.

Natalie Trickett also didn’t think she would experience a stroke in her young age. She is a 28-year-old mother of two.
She had exercised routinely and even participated in cross-fit events, which include one of the most extreme workouts.

When Nancy Trickett got a prescription for birth control pills and get the pills from the pharmacy, she didn’t read the warning written on the back of the pills. She had already been taking the contraceptive for about a year without any side effects.

Natalie said, “Strokes are a potential risk of the pill as they can lead to an increased risk of blood clots. Until you have been a victim of a stroke yourself – you don’t realize how real a risk it is.”
“I was so shocked, I panicked and fainted and it was all a bit of a blur,” she said.

Luckily, Natalie got her strength back up after she took medication and time to recover.
However, the stroke has left her with weakness on her right side of the body and peripheral vision, which will never fully recover.

Her treatment is over but her campaign has just started.

As she suffered from a stroke caused by contraceptive pills, she has been looking for the women who had the same experience as she had. “Since my stroke, I have been in touch with other young women who have had strokes and many of them suspect their stroke was caused by the pill too.”
