A pack of stray dogs from Kaithal, North India, have rescued an abandoned baby who was left behind wrapped in a plastic bag dumped in a drain.
According to the local reports, the dog pack found the baby and pulled the plastic bag she was wrapped in out of the drain.
Then, the strays allegedly started barking until a crowd gathered and realized there was a baby who desperately needed help.
As one of the witnesses reported, dogs pulled the abandoned baby out of a sewage drain, a claim supported by the footage of nearby surveillance cameras.
According to The Times of India, the police have already filed a case against the woman who is suspected of dumping her baby in the drain.
The police report also confirmed that the strays have rescued the baby’s life by removing her from the drain as well as alerting the passersby.
“She is likely a premature baby born after seven months of pregnancy. We decided to keep her under observation as transit could be life-threatening for her,” Dr. Dinesh Kansal said.
After the incident went viral, people applauded the dogs for dragging the crying newborn out of the drain and saving her life.
“Two stray dogs rescue a newborn girl thrown in a drain by dragging the wailing baby out in Haryana. And we’re human,” someone wrote.
“To think that a pack of stray dogs cares more about a newborn baby than her own mother is both shocking and worrying at the same time,” another one added.
Someone questioned the values of humanity by saying: “The same infamous street dogs and the same superior human! Now, who is the Animal here???”
