A stray pit bull was found nursing an abandoned kitten at the side of the road in South Dallas by a veterinarian of Mercy Animal Clinic in Garland, Texas.

Following her surprising discovery, Marina brought both the pit bull and the kitten back to the clinic where the rescuers took care of the inseparable duo.

“The dog is sweet and loves the kitten, but her milk is drying up. We are bottle feeding the kitten today and placing it in a home with a nursing mother cat tonight. Good job Marina!” Mercy Animal Clinic announced on Facebook.

As Dr. Hamlin later revealed, he took the kitten home with him on the first night in order to be able to feed her constantly. Pittie the Pit Bull, however, wasn’t thrilled when they took the kitten away from her.

“I brought the kitty home to bottle feed tonight, as I left, the pit bull starting howling,” the vet explained. “I bet she’ll be happy to see her tomorrow. Anybody want to adopt the two together? :))))”

Since then, Pittie had been patiently waiting every morning for Dr. Hamlin to bring in the kitten which she is seen lovingly licking in the video.

Despite the successful rescue, however, the clinic was forced to share some grim news not long after Pittie and Kitty joined them.

As they explained, the kitten has passed away due to bladder malformation and congenital kidney. According to the vets, these could also be the reasons why the dog felt so obliged to take care of the kitten in the first place.

“While Kitty’s time on earth may have been short, her days were a constant stream of love and compassion,” Dr. Hamlin said.

“While she was blessed to have been adopted by Pittie, rescued by Good Samaritans, cared for by us at Mercy, and followed by thousands around the world, we were blessed to be able to care for her and love her in her short time here.”
