Although it lost strength and was reclassified from a hurricane to a tropical storm, satellites images show that it is likely to gain strength and become a hurricane once more.

The National Hurricane Center has warned the residents of Florida that the effects of the storm will start to be felt around tonight. It urged that the residents take the appropriate measures to protect themselves and their family from the possible damages of the hurricane.

During a press conference, Florida governor Ron DeSantis also urged his residents to be well prepared, saying that Isaias will likely be a hurricane-level when it starts to pour down rain in the state.

The storm’s center will likely pass through the Florida Coast sometime today or early Sunday morning. After that, it is expected to continue its path north along the Eastern coastlines of the US.

For the Caribbean islanders such as the residents of Abaco Island in the Bahamas, the hurricane came before the great damage that Hurricane Dorian caused last year. Residents were relocated to safer locations away from the temporary housing that they have been residing in.

Earlier this week, Isaias has already caused damage in the islands of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. So far, one person was confirmed to have died from the storm, while 500,000 houses lost power in Puerto Rico.

Governor DeSantis and local county leaders urged the people to be safe and stay updated on the situation. The most dangerous aspect of Isaias will likely be the great downpour it brings, which can swiftly raise water levels by up to 4 feet and also may cause flooding.

The storm comes as the state of Florida has emerged as the new epicenter for Covid-19 in the continental USA. DeSantis said that the state’s emergency management team was well prepared and trained for the situation.

Just like every other aspect of life in a post-Covid world, various agencies have urged the residents to include PPEs in the list of items to secure in times of emergency. Officials also stated that they have prepared different PPEs to disperse in the region after the hurricane.
