During the Monday Electoral College vote, Arends broke into tears and opened up about his condition as he cast his vote for Biden.

“I have noted through this time that the Electoral College is not great, but it is a system we have in place. Knowing that, I was set on being a faithful elector – So I cast my ballot today for Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris,” Arends said.

In a shaky voice, the state elector added:

“I did so enthusiastically, of my own choice … Today was the chance to begin the end of the Trump administration. I was glad to do my duty and rid our nation of a petty dictator. Had he won a second term, there is no limit to the damage he could’ve done to the world.”

As Mr. Arends went on to suggest, it will be up to other people to “do the hard work” and rebuild America after Trump is gone from Office.

Concluding his speech, the state elector said: “In November, I was told there was no more medical treatment that can help me, so it was important for me to do this one thing that I could do, while I still can.”

As the Daily Herald reported, the 64-year-old state elector was diagnosed with a terminal heart condition after he had already been selected as a state elector for the 2020 election.

Arends also opened up about his condition in a Facebook post in which he called himself a “heart and kidney patient.”

“OK. Mask on. No big change for me, though. I am a heart and kidney patient, so I am immune compromised. I was social distancing before it was cool,” he wrote back in April.
