69-year-old Dan Dewey buys Starbucks coffee for all the cancer patients and staff at the Michigan Cancer Institute in Bloomfield Hills.
Every Thursday around 10:30 in the morning, Dan goes to his local Starbucks and order 12 to 24 drinks for all the patients receiving chemotherapy and the staff at the cancer treatment center.
It all started when Dan’s father was being treated for cancer at the Michigan Cancer Institute in Bloomfield Hills and he brought a cup of Starbucks coffee to his father.
One day, he bought Starbucks coffee to all the patients receiving chemotherapy at the cancer treatment center and then it became a routine.
Unfortunately, Dan’s father passed away but before dying, he told Dan to continue the good deed he was doing.
Dan spent around $40 to $75 on buying coffee for all the patients and staff at the Michigan Cancer Institute in Bloomfield Hills.
Valerie, a Starbucks barista, said she loves seeing his smiling face and looks forward to filling Dan’s order every Thursday.
She said: “After three years of people asking about why this man buys so many drinks, me telling them the story and them asking how they can donate, I came up with an idea.”
“I would get a custom Starbucks card, with “Dan’s Coffee Run” on it for anyone who would like to donate money that will go directly to purchasing drinks for the patients of MCI.”
This is how “Dan’s Coffee Run” started. The kind-hearted man never fails to buy and deliver coffee every Thursday for cancer patients. He brings a smile on everyone’s face with his selfless work.
When he was asked about the tradition that he kept alive even after his father’s death, he said: “I’ll continue doing this until the day I die.”
