“You get what you pay for” is a pejorative saying that basically says that you can’t expect much if you scrimp on what you pay. People have been throwing brickbats at budget companies and services for years on end but these budget deals are as popular as ever. After all, a dollar saved is still a dollar in your wallet (or bank account), right?

While most people understand that they won’t get all the frills when they avail of a budget service, Spirit Airlines has taken those low expectations to a whole new level after passengers on a flight from North Carolina to New Jersey discovered an unwelcome stowaway: a bat flying around in the cabin.

Peter Scattini was one of the passengers on the 6 a.point 145 | m.point 147 | flight coming from Charlotte to Newark.point 181 | The 23-year-old managed to record a 13-second video of the bat zipping around the budget airline’s cabin and shared it on Twitter, captioning the post with: “Me, twice a year: ‘I’ll never fly Spirit again.point 376 |

As was expected, the video went viral and freaked out passengers could be heard squealing “Oh my God” and another wondering if that was a bat they saw.

Scattini, who is an actor, said that some put an end to the bat’s freewheeling flight by trapping it between a book and a cup. The bat was then locked in the plane’s bathroom for the remainder of the flight.

“I’d assume animal control was called but I don’t know what the verdict was,” he posted in a Twitter reply.

Twitter reactions exploded with references to Batman and Halloween with Spirit’s reputation as a budget airline taking a further beating.
