A 6-year-old-boy from Bristol, England, was inspired by Tom Moore and began raising money for the NHS.
Frank Mills who suffers from spina bifida is attempting to raise money for front line healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
Frank began walking only eighteen months ago and still finds it challenging to complete short distances because of his condition.
Spina bifida causes gap in the spine as the baby’s spinal cord and spine do not develop completely in the womb.
After Frank saw the 99-year-old army veteran Tom Moore walking 100 laps with his walker, the young boy got inspired to walk with the help of his own walker while also raising funds for the NHS.
Frank’s mother Janet said that when the little boy saw Captain Tom on television, he exclaimed that he wanted to do that too.
She added that so, they took Frank’s walker outside and marked almost 33 feet on the pavement. Frank’s family then decided to make JustGiving account for raising funds.
Just like Captain Tom’s initial goal was £1,000, Frank had aimed for £99 only. But till Wednesday, he managed to collect more than £90,000, which is almost $110,000. Janet said that the response of the people towards Frank’s initiative was unbelievable.
Janet had given birth to Frank at only 25 weeks of her pregnancy. The newborn had to stay in the hospital for five weeks. He was admitted to the Southmead Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.
Because Frank had received absolutely amazing dedication and care from both Bristol Children’s Hospital and Southmead Hospital, he was more inspired to help the staff. F
rank’s father Tony said that people had been so generous specifically when they were struggling financially and added that this restored one’s faith in humanity.
The family wrote on the funding page that they were grateful to everyone who contributed and said that Frank would try and do that every day. As of 23rd April, the number of total cases in the U.K. is more than 133,000 while the reported deaths are 18,100.
