Though hitting and other forms of physical punishment can lead to short-term behavioral improvements, it creates a lot of impairment when it comes to long-term behavior changes. Hence, the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended and strictly advised parents to refrain from any such activities which can damage the morale of the child in the long-run.

Though fewer children have emerged out to be quite successful in their career, spanking is certainly not necessary for current generation kids, and also parents can always choose not to give their favorite toys if the child is a menace or can make them feel deprived of their want in order to bring them in line.

There are also a lot of studies which supports the same theory and have said that spanking makes the kid more aggressive instead of making them realize their mistakes. Also, these kids have shown signs of developing suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, and extreme anger. While these are some of the major changes wrt the behavior, few kids have even gone to depression because of spanking.
