10 Crazy Things That Actors Had to Do For Their Movie Roles


Your favorite actors and actresses invest a lot in their roles in order to give the best possible performance.

And, often they end up doing unusual or challenging things to prepare themselves for their roles. And below are some of the crazy things they had to do for their roles.

1. George MacKay for Captain Fantastic (2016)

For his role in Captain Fantastic, George had to learn how to do yoga. The actor used to practice at least 3 to 4 hours a day.

2. Zendaya for The Greatest Showman (2017)

For the film, the director wanted to rely on the body-double as little as possible. This is why Zendaya started to train for trapeze three months prior to the shooting and she performed many of the stunts on her own. 

3. Emile Hirsh for Into the Wild (2007)

Emile Hirst was cast as the main lead and at that time he weighed 156 pounds, and the actor had to lose 26 pounds to get into the shape. He went on a diet and dropped the required weight and by the end of it all, he was around 115 pounds. 

4. Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible- Fallout (2018)

Tom Cruise is known for doing crazy stunts on his own. In this movie, he performed a high-altitude, low-opening jump in the United Arab Emirates, because it was the only country that allowed him to do the stunt. The actor practiced the stunt in a wind tunnel and jumped out of the plane around 106 times to get the perfect take.

5. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine (2010)

Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams played a married couple in the movie, and the director wanted them to live together for while to get an authentic feel. The actor and actress lived together during the day, as Williams went to see her daughter at night.

6. Margot Robbie for me, Tonya (2017)

In this move, Margot had to portray the infamous figure skater Tonya Harding. In order to feel confident, she underwent training for five days a week and 4 hours a day. In fact, the actress spent Christmas eve, New’s eve, and even the day before her wedding practicing at the rink.

7. Joaquin Phoenix for Joker (2019)

To portray the role of Joker, Phoenix had to lose 52 pounds. The actor said that losing so much weight in such a short time had some serious psychological impact, but it did help him get into his character. Joaquin Phoenix won Oscar for his role in the movie.

8. Daniel Radcliffe for Jungle (2017)

Daniel Radcliffe played the leading role in the biographical film, which was about surviving in the Amazon rainforest. To get into the part, he had to lose weight, and the actor did not eat anything for two whole days.
