A Mother and 7-Year-Old Son Was ‘Locked’ In Their Home Because A Sofa Delivery Blocked Their Door

A 44 year old Scottish mother said she was essentially locked up in her house with her 7 year old son because Argos deliveryman refused to carry the sofa to the second floor, virtually locking the mother and son within their own house.

After deciding to separate with her husband, Sarah Miller delivered two rather expensive sofas to her new place where she was to stay with 7 year old Joel. What she did not expect was the deliveryman refusing to take the sofa upstairs, citing Covid-19 health regulations.

Because the team from Argos just left the two sofas on top of each other in front of the only door to the property, Miller said she and Joel were essentially locked up in their place because they could not move the jammed in sofas.

Miller recalled how the first thing that the deliveryman told her after coming to the house was that they were not allowed to go up the stairs as per health regulations. She explained how her oldest son had moved into a new place without any problem, and thus she should have no issue as well.

However, she observed in shock as the team stacked and locked the two sofas firmly in front of the door. Miller added that not only did one worker enter into her house during this process, but also many of them were being unprofessional and seemed as if they were playing around.

By the end, the sofas were stacked high up on top of each other – double the height that is shown in the picture. With no one else to call, Miller called her ex-husband for help. Only after climbing in through the kitchen window were they able to pull one sofa up the stairs.

However, her ex also had to leave for an undisclosed reason. Miller said she imagined the worst-case scenarios in her head, such as what she and Joel was supposed to do when a fire breaks out in this state.

Because they were still not able to leave their property, Miller said that she had to order pizza. When the pizza delivery arrived, the deliveryman had to squish the pizza through a narrow gap through the door. They were ‘rescued’ when their oldest son came over for help.
