A popular video blogger has passed away after her ex-husband reportedly doused her in petrol before setting her on fire during a live-streaming show.
Social media star Lamu from China was recording a live-streaming show when her former partner broke into her home and attacked her in front of her shocked family members and fans.
Lamu was rushed to the People’s Hospital in the Aba Prefecture before she was moved to the People’s Hospital of the Sichuan Hospital for better treatment.
According to local reports, the ex-husband wanted revenge as she initiated their divorce because of domestic abuse.
Lamu was a social media star from the Sichuan Province in western China. She had gained more than 780,000 followers on TikTok and amassed over 6.3 million likes before she was assaulted.
In her last video posted on September 14, Lamu was singing a traditional Tibetan song to show her appreciation to her fans.
But later that day, her live-stream show suddenly went black before her followers heard screams, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
For two days, her account didn’t have any activity until her sister, Zhuoma, informed Lamu’s followers about the horrific attack.
Zhuoma also begged the public for financial help and kindhearted people donated around one million yuan ($147,000) to the family.
Sadly, Lamu was pronounced dead by doctors after efforts, and treatment had all failed.
A police statement said that Lamu was attacked by her ex-husband, Tang, at around 8:50 pm on September 14.
One internet user commented: “So many women suffer abuse and cruelty in this world. So sorry for this lady. Rest in peace.”
Another wrote: “Another woman who is a victim of ex-partner violence. Rest In Peace.”
