US Women’s Soccer star player Ashlyn Harris married teammate Ali Krieger in Miami, Florida in what Harris said was “the most magical day of my life.
”
The couple used rings made by Great Heights because the company shares “the same vision and support surrounding equality and LGBTQ marriage rights.”
They then capped off the ceremony with a wedding cake that had a rainbow sponge. Harris even joked on Instagram that she could now eat carbs.
Harris had on a Thom Browne black silk faille tuxedo while Ashlyn was equally stunning with a deep-V back white gown by Pronovias.
Ashlyn told Vogue, “Thom Browne dresses the Barcelona soccer team, and that’s kind of how I first started seeing his stuff. I had purchased a few different items, and I researched his background and found out that he was an athlete. He was a swimmer and part of the LGBTQ community and an American-based designer—all of the things that I look for when wearing clothes.
“Honestly, I loved that it was very gender-neutral, very fluid, there were women in dresses and men in dresses, and men and women in skirts. I can really feel how he expresses himself through clothes, it’s just so non-conforming and so far out, and I’ve been wearing his stuff ever since.”
As for the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens being chosen as the location for the nuptials, that was thanks to the US National Team.
“I think weddings can look super cheesy,” Ashlyn said. “Sometimes I feel like stuff is just thrown everywhere to make it white and there are things hanging, and flowers everywhere—it gives me a little anxiety.”
“There’s not much you need to add to it. There’s so much beauty in and of itself, and it’s right on the water, so it was a fit for us.”
According to Krieger, they both fell in love with the venue the moment they saw it.
“It was this kind of Mediterranean castle-like vibe right on the water, this European-type vibe that we were going for,’ she said. ‘Right, when we walked in we, were like, ‘Oh my God. We love this and everyone else was going to love this and this is just … This is it.'”
Harris added: “I think the biggest thing for Ali and I was creating an environment where it was a very classic and clean and modern and just really sharp and almost in a magical way that’s kind of what our vision was from the very beginning.
“So right off the bat, we excluded anything rustic, anything barn door, anything that had that kind of aesthetic. And I think that for me personally, the venue was the most important thing.”
