Colombia and won the FIFA World Cup match in 2011.
In these last eight years, the soccer star has turned into a US cultural critic from a patriotic national champion. She once used to display a lot of love for her country, but she claims that she will never sing the national anthem again in her life.
She won a match against Thailand and got another FIFA World Cup trophy with her team. The American poster girl recently became the first gay woman to pose for the swimsuit issue, which is illustrated for the sports edition.
While giving an interview, she explained why she doesn’t want to honor or sing the national anthem anymore as she used to in her past.
She was pretty firm when she claimed that now she will never sing the national anthem again in her life because she thinks it’s going to be a ‘F for Trump’ because of the inequality and bad sentiments that the administration has shown towards people.
Megan was pretty clear that she doesn’t want to turn her back against her country, but she doesn’t want to be like Trump.
She is happy to wear the jersey and represent it because she knows that she is talented and can be wherever she wants to be without anyone telling her to do otherwise.
During the pre-game in 2016, Megan took a knee during the national anthem performance with the NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick who used this gesture as a way to protest against the racism and police brutality.
Megan claims that it feels bad to look at the flag and not having all the liberties being protected positively.
She says that in a world where the president is Donald Trump, she has tried her best to stand up against the bullies and to be a LGBTQ role model as an adult.
After Megan’s protest, the United States Soccer Federation started a rule for all players to stand respectfully during the game. Megan said that she would abide by this rule because she loves to play this game.
Megan feels that it is going to be hard to break down the racial basis and change the norms, but she will still protest against this and make it work. It is essential to break through this inequality and get progress in the LGBTQ rights.
