The castle was originally built by the Portuguese slavers in 1482 as a trading outpost but eventually became one of the busiest stops on the Atlantic slave trade.

Although the Dutch forces took over the castle in the 17th century yet slave trade continued there as usual.

However, he also says that all of the castle’s past has moved him. He refers the slaves to as his ancestors and also encourages people to visit the place so that visitors can understand the kind of sacrifices made by them.

The same sentiment was also echoed by the President of Ghana – Last year, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo had declared that 2019 as the Year of Return for people of African descent.

He had encouraged African people to visit the place or even to return full time and live in the country. It seems Steve has responded to the call.
