Amid coronavirus outbreak, a heartbreaking picture has emerged that shows a nine-year-old saying goodbye to her two-year-old sister through a glass window.
Nine-year-old Kayla O’Hara suffers from Marfan syndrome that affects the heart and is extremely vulnerable to coronavirus.
The family from Blantyre, South Lanarkshire has now split up to save their children’s lives.
Kayla and her 14-year-old brother Calum will live with their dad while her two-year-old sister, Lacey will live with her mother, Christine McKinnon and her current partner, Robert Sturgeon.
Christine told this’s the first Mother’s Day she spent without Kayla but it’s for her good as she can’t take any chance.
She told Daily Record: “I’m so scared of what could happen to her.”
Christine works for an energy company and is unable to work from home. She said she comes into contact with so many people daily and doesn’t want Kayla to contract the virus.
Kayla stays in touch with her mother and sister Lacey via FaceTime. However, Kayla recently visited her family and said goodbye to her sister Lacey through a glass window.
Christine shared the heartbreaking picture online with the caption: “This is my daughter on the outside of the window saying goodbye to me and her baby sister.”
“My daughter has a heart condition and gets very not well at times and a very weak chest. As I’m still working and in contact with too many people, please think of our vulnerable people during this uncertain times. My heart is broken but I had to do the right thing for my child.”
Christine urged parents, who are complaining about having to stay at home with their kids, to keep their children indoors amid coronavirus outbreak.
She said her two-year-old has autism and is used to living with her brother and sister but she has decided to split up to keep her children safe.
She said: “Healthy people could be carriers and are not staying in as often as they should. I wanted to show people how dangerous this is for some families.”
