30-year-old single mother Elena Oldenburg and her 13-year-old disabled son were found dead next to each other after plummeting to the ground from the ninth floor of an apartment building.
The incident occurred in the city of Tolyatti In Russia. Allegedly, the mother committed suicide and took her son together with her after the pair couldn’t afford to buy a wheelchair.
Elena’s 13-year-old son was suffering from cerebral palsy and appeared to be too much for the exhausted single mom to handle on her own.
According to the local media, the mother’s situation was progressively worsening which is probably why she took to suicide as the last resort.
Due to the never-ending neurological disorder of Elena’s son, Misha, the mother was forced to carry him around in her arms all the time. Sadly, no one stepped forward to assist the struggling mother with buying a wheelchair in time.
“She did not have a wheelchair and always had to carry him (Misha) in her arms,” Elena’s neighbor told the local reporters.
“She always cuddled him. She was calm and never shouted at her son. She also never complained about anything.”
Nevertheless, enough is enough, and Elena eventually couldn’t carry all the burdens by herself any longer. “I think she could not handle the enormous burden,” the neighbor added.
As a female shop attendant, who happens to be one of the last people to ever see the 30-year-old mother, said, she “saw her buying some food earlier that day. She was upset about something.”
While the police continue to investigate the case, reports claim that the single-mom lived alone with her son and didn’t have any close friends.
