Detective Jack Mook has an incredible 22-year record on the Pittsburgh police force.
Underneath that exterior hardened by years of seeing horrific crimes and dealing with the worst of the worst even Jack himself didn’t know about the big heart hidden beneath.
Jack had been volunteering at a local boxing ring to help out underprivileged children. He had a set of regulars that he had grown a bit attached to, even though he would never admit it. One day two of the usual set of regulars didn’t show up. They were two brothers, Josh and Jessee. Jack suspected something must have been wrong so he decided to go out and search for them. When he found them, he also discovered a secret the pair had been trying to keep hidden from the world.

Josh told the story to CBS’ Steve Hartman as he fought back tears.

Josh and Jessee both revealed to Jack that they were living in a foster home and that their foster parents were incredibly abusive. It turns out that their living conditions were so bad that Jack couldn’t stand for it anymore. Giving up the bachelor life, Jack decided to take custody of the two young boys and put them under his wing. He was going to make sure these boys had a happy childhood.

Jack told CBS that the experience has completely changed his life for the better. When the story was initially aired, CBS was quickly flooded with emails from viewers, mostly single women. Many wanted to know more about Detective Jack.

Another woman who decided she wanted to meet up with Jack on her own terms. She heard that Jack would be at a local bar so she dressed the part and went to meet him. The two instantly hit it off and quickly married. Mary was a single mother of three young boys who immediately befriended their new brothers Josh and Jessee. Jack could have never imagined his life would change so much so quickly, but he is incredibly happy that it did.
I thought being single was fun because you don’t have any responsibilities. But when you’re single, you don’t realize what you’re missing. I’m glad I let her break through that barrier and take me away from that life.
